Could it be? 3 Pets of the Week!

This week instead of having TWO Pets of the Week, we have THREE!  Cowboy, Ranger, and Dixie!

Cowboy and Ranger are large, lazy, and affectionate Manx cats looking for a loving home. They are both 5 years old and have no tails. We do not want these brothers to be apart. Cowboy is a little shy but calm and very sweet. He is the largest at 17.5 lbs! Ranger is friendly and more outgoing. He has a laidback and affectionate attitude. They are both well behaved and very used to living indoors. Cowboy and Ranger are looking for a quiet household where they can be lazy and get lots of petting. Both cats are neutered, current on vaccinations, FeLV/FIV negative and micro-chipped. Their adoption fee together is $125. PAWS Humane offers a senior citizen adoption discount of $50 per pet. Cowboy and Ranger could be adopted together to a qualifying senior citizen home for only $25!

Dixie is a small female Beagle mix about four years old. No longer wanted by her owner, she and another dog were recently pushed out of a car in the Animal Control parking lot and left to fend for themselves. Poor Dixie was so scared she ran and hid until finally, a shelter staff member was able to coax her to come to her. She is a precious girl and is very friendly now that she feels comfortable and safe. Dixie is looking for a home with a family who will never abandon her again. She is spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative and micro-chipped. Her adoption fee is $175.

Come to the shelter and say hello to these wonderful furry pals and maybe you’ll even fall in love!

Friday the 13th: Black Cats, Bad Luck?

Silky

Today is Friday the 13th and I thought it would be a great day to put the spotlight on our black cats. PAWS Humane currently has 6 black cats and a few mixes patiently waiting for loving homes. Velvet, our longest resident cat, is black.  Having the lowest adoption rates and the highest euthanasia rates in animal shelters, they don’t really have the best luck.  The superstition surrounding black cats as being “bad luck” or “the devil” has been around for centuries. It also does not help that their dark color makes them blend in. Owners and advocates of black cats can tell anyone they are some of the most appreciative, loving, and angelic cats there are. Maybe a black shelter cat will get its lucky break today. If you have a black cat let us know why your “little panther” is so amazing!

Say hello to Whiskey & Trixie!

And now introducing this week’s PAWS Pets of the Week… Whiskey and Trixie!  Also remember that all adult pet adoption fees are still $25 off!

Whiskey is a 3 year old large brown tabby. Like most cats, he is shy but very sweet. He likes to snuggle under blankets or close to people. Whiskey is looking for a quiet, low-key home where he will get lots of love. Whiskey is neutered, current on vaccinations, FeLV/FIV negative and micro-chipped. His adoption fee is $100 (only $75 with the discount!).

Hey! My name is Trixie and I’m a 4 month old Coonhound mix! I am a happy, energetic, and incredibly smart little gal! My favorite thing to do is romp and play in the great outdoors. I am looking for a companion who is very active, will take me on long walks, and play with me. Seeing as I am teething, I enjoy chewing on toys, especially ones that go “SQUEAK”!. I will follow my nose, wherever it goes, so I’ll need a securely fenced in yard.  If you are ready to explore the great outdoors with me let’s kick up our heels and get going!  I promise lots of love and kisses!  Lucky for me, I spent a short time in a foster home before making my way to PAWS to find my forever home. I’ve  been spayed, vaccinated, micro-chipped, and de-wormed. My adoption fee is $175.

Come say hit to Whiskey and Trixie at the shelter!  Who knows, maybe one of these sweet babies could be your perfect match!

Bonner & Gail– Pets of the Week!

I know it’s been a while, but there’s no better way to come back blogging than to highlight this weeks PAWS Pets of the Week!

Bonner is a three year old black long-haired cat. When Bonner was found, he was so matted that his fur had to be shaved very short. When it grows back, he will be beautiful and fluffy again. Bonner is a big sweet cat and is very social. Bonner is neutered, current on vaccinations, FeLV/FIV negative and micro-chipped. His adoption fee is $100.  For a limited time PAWS Humane is offering a $25 discount off the adoption fee of any adult cat or dog.

Gail is a one-year-old female Beagle mix who was brought over from Animal Control. She is an active girl who would love to have either children to play with or a family who enjoys going for walks or runs. Gail may be an escape artist, so we advise that she goes to an indoor home and is supervised closely while she is outside. Like most dogs of the Beagle variety, Gail loves to talk, so an apartment home may not be the best choice for her. Gail has been spayed, vaccinated, micro-chipped, and de-wormed. Her adoption fee is $175.

Kitty’s Galore!

With the upcoming kitten season, PAWS will need a lot of space in order to save as many kittens as possible.  Currently, PAWS has 36 cats available for adoption and more coming.  Most of these cats have been at PAWS for quite a long time and if they don’t get adopted soon then there won’t be room for all the abundance of newborn kittens that will be at Animal Control.  (P.S. if your interested in fostering during kitten season, or anytime for tha matter,  fill out a foster application!)

Here are some sweet cats from PAWS that are in desperate need of a forever home.  Most of these faces probably look familiar to you because they’ve been waiting for quite a while. To look at these cats and more, please visit the PAWS Humane Shelter Adoption page:

Celia, 11 months, @ PAWS since 1/12

Kenny, 1 year old, @ PAWS since 3/10

Pets of the Week: Gail & Yum Yum

This week at PAWS we are highlighting two very sweet ladies, Gail and Yum Yum!

Yum Yum is a beautiful seven year old cream point tabby with sparkling blue eyes. She was once adopted but returned because her owner sadly had to move to a place that did not allow inside animals. We hope Yum Yums’ return is short and she is in a new home soon. She does well with cats and with calm dogs. Yum Yum is a gentle and laid-back cat that likes just about everyone as long as they respect her. She can usually be found on a perch taking a nap. As a mature gal, Yum Yum has slowed down but she still has a lot of love. She will need a quiet and low activity home where she can feel comfortable. Yum Yum is spayed, current on vaccinations, FeLV/FIV negative, and micro-chipped. Her adoption fee is $50. PAWS has a senior citizen adoption discount of $50 for qualifying seniors 60+ years which means Yum-Yum could go home with a new senior friend at no charge.

Happy Tails: Remember Dallas?

Dallas is a Labrador Retriever/American Bulldog mix that came to PAWS on March 10.  This lucky guy was only at PAWS for five days until he found his forever home!  Dallas’ new owner sent PAWS some information on how he is doing in his new home:

“Dallas has blessed our home more than we ever thought a dog could. Before we started looking for a new addition to our home we had a picture of the dog we wanted. We wanted a hound dog, Dallas is what we call a food hound and always keeps us laughing. I wanted a guard dog to keep me safe, Dallas never leaves my side no matter where I go or what I do, you can bet he is by my side ready to give kisses or reassurance that everything will be ok. I wanted people to look and be cautious of approaching me with my dog, Dallas has won everyones heart on ft. Benning base including all the guards, police, and soldiers….rewarding me with new friends in a place where I just moved too and do not know anyone. He goes to visit my husband every day at work and the soldiers look forward to his kisses and company. When I saw Dallas he was not what I had in mind, but he is everything I could ever ask for in a companion and a new addition to our family.”

Dallas lounging in his new home!

It looks like Dallas has adopted his new family instead of the other way around! Congrats to Dallas on finding his forever home!
