A week that went to the dogs!

Congratulations to the 2o dogs that were adopted last week!  Of course we can’t forget the fact that there were also 9 cat adoptions (including Drift, who had been at PAWS for about 5 months!

Well with that many adoptions, there must not be any animals left to adopt, right? WRONG! There’s still a ton of pets at PAWS that need a home, like Black Mamba and Santa’s Little Helper.

Black Mamba, 3 years old

Black Mamba is a beautiful solid black cat who is searching for her charmer. She is a special needs cat who will need a loving and devoted owner. Black Mamba is heartworm positive. Cats usually have a natural defense against heartworms but sometimes an infected mosquito can bite them and heartworms can develop. Unfortunately, there is no cure for heartworms in cats like there is for dogs. However, there are preventative measures to help keep the problem from getting any worse. Mamba’s adoption includes a six-month supply of heartworm prevention. As we require for all our adoptions, Black Mamba will need a post adoption exam provided by a regular veterinarian, with emphasis on her heartworms. Other than that, Black Mamba can live like any other cat. We don’t want Black Mamba’s condition to prevent her from living a prosperous and happy life. She is a little timid at first but once you charm the Black Mamba she is extremely affectionate and loving.

Santa's Little Helper, Lab mix, 1 years old

Santa’s Little Helper is a one year old lab mix who is very sweet and very energetic. PAWS got her from Animal Control before her time was up over there. “SLH” will need to have a strict indoor-only home because she can climb a fence. She is also full of energy and will need someone who will be willing to run and play with her. Like all animals at PAWS, she has been spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $175.

Interested in either of these ladies? Come visit them at the shelter to learn more about them one on one!

This week PAWS is featuring two handsome, debonair gentlemen, Lenny and Tigger!

But before I introduce them, I wanted to apologize for hardly posting any blogs lately. I’m just not sure what to talk about and what you guys want to hear about.  So tell me, what do you want to read about?  Let me know by leaving a comment on this blog with your ideas.

Now, let’s see our pets of the week!

Lenny, Lab mix, 2 months old

Lenny is one of a litter of five black lab puppies available for adoption.  Don’t make the mistake of confusing you with his siblings!  Lenny is very unique.  He is an active, happy, rambunctious pup ready to go home now. Lenny is neutered, current on age appropriate vaccinations and dewormer and micro-chipped. His adoption fee is $250.

Tigger, Maine Coone mix, 2 years old

Tigger is a handsome male Maine Coon. He is about two years old and is a very mellow, gentle cat. Tigger is a little reserved but kind and affectionate. He enjoys having his long fur brushed and quiet affection. Tigger is neutered, current on vaccinations, FeLV/FIV negative and micro-chipped. Tigger’s adoption fee is $100.

Pets of the Week!

The PAWS Pets of the Week (for my BIRTHDAY week) are Louie and Muffy!

Louie, 5 years old

Louie is a super-sized beautiful shiny black cat. He is a whopping 16 lbs of pure teddy bear love. He and his brother, Mowgli, were recently brought to the shelter by their owner who was unable to continue caring for them.  Both cats are very laidback, loving and friendly. Louie is solid black and Mowgli is solid white and both are declawed.  They like other cats as well as dogs and are child friendly.  Louie is neutered, current on vaccinations, FeLV/FIV negative and micro-chipped. His adoption fee is $100. PAWS Humane offers a multi-cat discount of $25 if two cats are adopted together as well as a $25 discount for senior adopters 60+ years.

Muffy, 1 year 7 months old, Shepherd/Mix

My name is Muffy. I’m full of energy and I love to play! My favorite thing in the world, though, is attention. What can I say? I love to be loved. I will need some extra obedience training but I am smart and willing to learn. One of the volunteers here at PAWS Humane has been working with me on my leash training and I am catching on very well. I need a family that will be able to spend a lot of time with me. I promise I will love you forever in return. I am spayed, current on my vaccinations, heartworm negative and micro-chipped. My adoption fee is $175.

And congrats to  Pretty Boy and Mr. Bickerstaff, previous Pets of the Week! They have now been adopted!

What a cuddly day!

I went to PAWS this morning to do some cuddling and boy were the pets loving!  I hung out with both dogs and cats today and they were all very happy to get some attention.  Even though all the animals were wonderful, I’m going to highlight two: Louie and Cola.

Louie, 5 years old

Louie is a very sweet 5 year old cat that weighs a whopping 16 pounds!  He came to PAWS with his brother Mowgli (who shares a room with him).  When I entered the room, Louie was curled up in his bed sleeping and didn’t really have much interest in me.  Unlike some cats, he didn’t jump up and try to get my attention.  Instead he just stayed in his spot and let me approach him.  He didn’t hesitate to let me pet him and never once did he try and compete with his brother for my attention.  It’s as if he was royalty and I was just a pawn being given the pleasure of petting such a high-class cat!  Louie definitely knows that he is someone special, but at the same time he doesn’t try and bully or boss those around him, so he is fine with other cats, dogs, and even kids.  I strongly encourage you to come by the shelter and give this big guy some love!

Cola, Lab Mix, 2 years old

Cola is a Labrador mix who was by far the most cuddly pup I encountered today.  I knew she had to be a sweet heart when I walked past her room and saw her laying on the floor leaned up right against the door.  Before I went in her room, I took her outside.  She is pretty good on the leash and didn’t really give the other dogs much attention as they passed by.  Once we got back in her room, all she wanted to do was snuggle.  I started off sitting in a chair and petting her, but she insisted on trying to get her entire body on my lap, so I got on the ground.  From that point on, I was literally pinned to the ground while she laid on me for 30 minutes.  Any time I would try and get up she would put her paw on my shoulder and look me in the eyes.  How could I say no to that?!  Here’s a video of her showing her sitting skills.

Louie and Cola are definitely sweeties, but there are also so many more at the shelter that are just as awesome!  Please go by and take a look at them.  Give these homeless pets a chance!

Who’s the Pet of the Week?

It’s Mr. Bickerstaff and Pretty Boy!

Mr. Bickerstaff, 3 years old, @ PAWS since 12/22

Mr. Bickerstaff is an absolute sweetheart who loves people and is looking for a warm lap to sit in. We recently rescued him from Animal Control after he had been abandoned in someone’s backyard for nearly a month. Mr. B is ready to leave his past behind him and start a new, happy life with a loving family. He is a gentleman who keeps his room neat and tidy. We hope he gets the special home he so deserves very soon. Mr. Bickerstaff is current on all vaccines, neutered, heartworm negative and micro-chipped. His adoption fee is $250.

Pretty Boy, 4 years old, @ PAWS since 9/7

Pretty Boy is an extremely sweet four year old orange tabby. He is a very easygoing guy who loves attention. He gets along well with everybody and he will make an awesome pet. He was fostered during the holidays and his foster parent said he was an angel. Pretty Boy has a friendly disposition and he may want to be your best buddy! Pretty boy is neutered, current on vaccinations, FeLV/FIV negative and micro-chipped. His adoption fee is $100.

Also, now the pets of PAWS have video clips of them in action on their info pages on the website!  Check out Phenix snuggling or Norman catching bones!
